Dr. Nikitta Dede Abena Adjirakor is a Ghanaian researcher, storyteller and educator. She writes and speaks internationally about language documentation, multilingual African literary networks, popular culture, creative cultural industries and women’s bodies.

 RESEARCHER

I am a recipient of the prestigious Feodor Lynen Fellowship funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the University of Ghana.

My current research project explores the intersections between African language literatures (Swahili and Ga) and digitality. I examine how writers create networks and practices that rely on digital innovation to make African languages visible in the digital space.

My first academic book, Aesthetic Vibes, under preparation, thinks about the interrelation between hip-hop, poetry and lifeworlds in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

My areas of focus are Ghana and Tanzania.

 STORYTELLER

I am, at heart, a storyteller. I work primarily through four mediums:

Film

Poetry

Non-fiction

Children’s Books

EDUCATOR / ACTIVIST

I am committed to building empowering communities that critically develop resources for education.

I am the founder of Write Ghana Literary Initiatives, a literary non-profit that documents and publishes Ghanaian languages and literature.

I regularly volunteer with a variety of organisations like non-tertiary institutions and the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) where my work is generally geared towards facilitating youth empowerment, literacy and critical thinking skills through policymaking and appropriate training.
